Words from Colleen Moore, Bernedette's nominator:
"Bernedette works mornings in the drive-up window at McDonalds. I have never been there that she has not met me with a smile, a brilliant greeting of "Hey- Pretty Lady!" and sent me on my way with a compliment. Whenever I have a day that starts off with a feeling that I'd like to go back to bed and start over, I make my way to Bernedette. I have never left McDonalds without a good breakfast and a refill on all my soul needed for the day. I bypass two other McDonalds to see Bernedette. She notices when I am gone for awhile and she greets me like a long lost friend.
I am not unique. I see countless people lean out of their cars with smiles that cover their faces to greet Bernedette at the window. The line always seems slower and more lethargic when she's not there. Her infectious personality is more potent than therapy or any bad weather.
She is an asset to those that stop in. She makes everyone a better person by just sliding open her window. She serves as a personal hype squad to all the customers she meets. She has turned more than one frown upside down. People like her don't happen in your life very often.
